Expired Domains, A Potential Goldmine

Let's start by explaining what a domain is before we get into the potential for wealth that comes with expired domains. A domain is the address to a particular website, or its url. A domain is unique there is only one possible and so anyone who wants to see your site needs to know the address or the domain to find it. Domains are regulated by a worldwide internet governing body which ensures that there is no compromise of domains which could actually be considered intellectual property in some ways (I'll explain in a bit.)

Now when you think of some of the sites that you have been and how you've gotten there

you start to see the huge importance of having a great name. Take for instance any big business or store. They usually have names that are something like, "www.(store name).com. With a name like that a person doesn't even have to search to find their site all they have to do is type in the name of the store with a .com behind it and kazaam, they are at the site. This is incredibly powerful with the search engines too. If the domain name is very to the keyword being searched that gives it priority in terms of rank automatically. OK so you should have this down, now we need to talk about what expired domains are and why they are so important.

You have to understand that this governing body that regulates the issuing of a domain name has also decided that you don't own a domain name. Therefore having a domain name is really renting it for a certain time. This time is specified and cost is adjusted accordingly. At the end of the specified time the original "renter" of the name has the choice to keep the name for another period of time and for another fee. If they don't want it anymore or forget about it or can't respond in time it goes up for anybody to rent. This is what expired domains are, domain names previously owned but no longer possessed.

If you are a good thinker than you have already stopped reading and are off reading frantically the tactics to finding valuable expired domains and then reselling them to businesses who crave them for their value. And this is the trick, having a way to monitor for valuable expired domains and then being able to advertise to the right people in order to resell the names for a profit.
